Damien Hirst: Cherry Blossoms

£65.00

Damien Hirst devoted two years, in 2018 and 2019, to creating the 107 imposing paintings that comprise the Cherry Blossoms series. In his London studio, he combined thick brushstrokes and elements of gestural painting, referencing Impressionism, Pointillism, and Action Painting. Published for the exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris this book brings together all of the Cherry Blossoms through 250 color reproductions and numerous details and 18 foldouts. It is a literary exploration of the theme of cherries and cherry blossoms. The namesake exhibition presented 30 paintings chosen by the artist among the 107 canvases of the series, all large-format. The scenography was voluntarily sober, without comments, in order to leave the visitors the pleasure of immersing themselves in the painting; and it was Hirst’s first museum exhibition in France. Cherry Blossoms series marks the artist’s return to solitary work in his studio.
